string instruments for sale

. . . .Bill and Pat McClain have operated Atlanta Violins since its inception in 1993.

Bill has been involved in the music business since 1975, as a teacher, repair person, and store owner.

While our shop is a full service facility, including sales and rentals, Bill and Pat’s main interest is in repair and restoration. Bill has spent several summers at the Violin Craftsmanship Institute in New Hampshire and, more recently, at Hans Nebel’s repair and restoration workshops in Massachusetts.

Perfecting repair technique is a lifetime job, much like learning to play a stringed instrument. At Atlanta Violins our goal is to always work toward providing the highest degree of professional work at a reasonable price.

David Pineda, was inspired to study music by his uncle violinist Alejandro Huezo. After begging his parents from the age of five, he convinced them to let him enroll at the conservatory of his native Honduras, the "Victoriano". There he began his studies in violoncello. Being aware of his late start, he began practicing a minimum of three hours a day on school days and six or more hours on weekends. He studied under Ricardo Barrientos, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, U.K. and his uncle Alejandro.

Finally, his hard work paid off when he earned the "Gold Medal" competition at the "Victoriano" for two consecutive years and performed many solo features. In 1985, due to his quick progress he was a recognized talent among educators in Central America, leading to invitations for scholarships in the United States. Arriving to the United States in 1986, he continued his studies with cellists Martha Gerschefski and Carlton McCreery. Occasionally he received lessons from Andres Diaz and violinist Henry Rubin. Since his first paid recital at the Birmingham Music Club in Birmingham, Alabama, he has been heard as chamber musician and recitalist, performing throughout the southeast United States and Central America in events such as the International Convention of Composers Incorporated recital. His childhood dream of meeting in person cellist Mstislav Rostropovich finally came true when he participated in the prestigious First World Wide Cello Congress Orchestra. At this event he also met and was struck by the inspiring playing of late French cellist Paul Tortelier. Today he has been the recipient of several performance and scholastic awards and is Co-founder and Music Artistic Director of the Atlanta Chamber Orchestra (A Conservatory Orchestra). Concert series includes: The acclaimed "Music of the World", The Family Music Hour Series, Recital-Lectures and Chamber Orchestra Concerts. Mr. Pineda hosts CELLIBASH, a on e week summer program of technique and ensemble for talented young cellists. Exclusive Private Instructor with the Atlanta Chamber Orchestra's Educational Division, MUSIC SUITE in Historic Roswell and BACKSTAGE MUSIC SUITE in Historic Lawrenceville. Author of string pedagogy methods for cello and string orchestra, editor and arranger of cello ensemble, chamber music and chamber orchestra, repertoire encompassing nearly 100 pieces. His most resent recording releases are "BACIO" and “French Portraits“, re-released due to popular demand under an a new album named “Il Bacio a la mode”, "Music Card", also the new release "Songs of the Mockingbird with his musical half Violinist Tirza Kosche.

. . . .Matt Phillips is the newest partner at Atlanta violins, joining Bill and Pat as an owner in 2005.

He now heads our repair/restoration department, and handles almost all customer work.

He is also in charge of all the "touchup" jobs, perhaps the most difficult of all procedures in violin repair.

. . . .Pat McClain handles all of the bow work at Atlanta Violins. She has been rehairing and repairing bows for over fourteen years now, having studied for several summers at The Violin Craftsmanship Institute in New Hampshire, and more recently at Michael Vann's workshop in Victoria, BC.

Bow rehairing is a highly specialized skill which requires one person giving it their full attention.

Usually a bow brought in will be ready for you the following day. If necessary a "loaner" bow can be arranged.

. . . .Niki Rawls is our Office Manager.

She is a whiz on the computer, and is in fact responsible for us finally finishing this website.

She will be glad to talk to you about your rental account, or anything else business wise.

. . . .Cade Lewis is our rental shop manager. He repairs and adjusts all of our rental program instruments. He is learning the more intricate "ins and outs" of violin and bow repair.

He also plays a mean bass and will be happy to answer any questions you might have about purchasing a bass of your own.
